JMMS Clubs: Dance Team

T

he JMMS Dance Team is currently not involved in competition. Why? In middle school, there are usually a limited number of students who are dedicated or committed. Since middle school is an adjustment period for most students, the intentions for the dance team is not to add additional pressure. Therefore, we do not charge students for uniforms, etc. We perform fund-raising activities towards purchasing uniforms, and other items for the team.

Our purpose is to expose students to activities involving dancing and teaming; and to support our school. So when they reach high school, they will understand, know and have a better concept of the word "dedication" before they join a dance team. The Dance Team has participated in the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl Half-Time Show for the previous two years. We always participate in school functions such as pep rallies, the Black History Program, and we represent our school at the Jose Marti Parade. This year our team has grown. We have official uniforms, and we have been participating in local events outside the school.

Membership Requirements

Interested participants must have parent permission, and three (3) teacher recommendations in order to participate in try-outs. Then participants must complete a two week "work-out" session; followed by an official auditions. Participants must perform a mini-routine taught by the sponsor, as well as perform an individual routine. Participants are scored by judges, not by the sponsor.
