JMMS Physical Education - Rules

DRESSING OUT: Dressing out is required daily. It is our philosophy that if a student is well enough to come to school, he/she is well enough to dress out. If a note is sent from home, the student will dress out but will not be required to actively participate. In order to be excused from active class participation for more than three days, a doctor's note is required.

Jose Marti physical education uniforms will be sold at the school. The uniform consists of shorts ($10.00) and shirt ($10.00). Locks are also available for $2.00 which are specifically used for the locker room.

It is strongly reccommended that each student brings the following items each day to class: WATER in a plastic bottle, a hat and sunscreen.

GRADING: If a student does not dress out in a proper physical education uniform, he/she will not pass. Although many areas are considered in issuing grades, an emphasis is placed upon dressing out and daily class participation. A notebook is required and weekly homework is given.

ABSENCES: It is the student's responsibility to give admits and excuses to the teacher. If no written excuse is provided the absence will be considered unsatisfactory. Each student is responsible for obtaining any information covered in the class during their absence. Any five unsatisfactory absences during the semester will result in automatic failure for the year.

DETENTIONS: Detentions will be assigned for unsatisfactory progress and will be assigned by the individual teach 24 hours in advance.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS: If there is any health problem or medical condition that prevents a student's participation in Physical Education, such as asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, back problems, etc., the teacher must be notified.

VANDALISM: Any acts of vandalism (kicking lockers, writing on school property, etc) will lead to disciplinary action. A student is to take care of and be responsible for his/her own property and leave other's property alone.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: All students must report directly to their assigned areas for roll call. Students must not use any equipment or apparatus or participate in any activity unless supervised and instructed to do so. Students will not play on the pull up bars. They are to be used for pull ups only. Students will not pick up or throw rocks.

CONDUCT: Students are not allowed to chew gun, eat candy or other foodstuffs during physical education class time. Unacceptable behavior and/or language will not be tolerated.

EQUIPMENT: No personal P.E. equipment such as ( bats, basketballs, footballs, etc) are to be brought into the locker room or onto the physical education field areas. No radios, cassette players, phones, beepers, CD players as well as game boys are to be brought into the locker room or onto the field areas during class.
