JMMS
Departments: Fine Arts
The Fine Arts department of Jose Marti Middle School is
outstanding. There are courses ranging from beginning to advanced
levels in Drama, Art, and Band.
Each discipline showcases their students work through stage
productions, concerts, and exhibitions throughout the year. They have
earned many awards and won accolades from throughout the county and
state.
Fine Arts: Art
Through exploring the arts we hope to develop our students' self
confidence, in addition to helping them acquire an appreciation for the
arts and improve their artistic skills.
The course offerings in our visual arts program are: The
Exploratory Wheel for the sixth graders, and Art Appreciation 1 or 2
for seventh and eighth graders. These courses expose our students to a
variety of topics: art history, elements and principles of design,
drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and the
exploration of careers in art.
Fine Arts: Band
The
Band Program at Jose Marti Middle School believes that all students
should be given opportunities to explore every musical aspect in their
lives. We strive to provide an atmosphere conducive to creative
thinking, musical exploration and higher-order thinking skills. In
addition to nurturing student's talents, we emphasize the development
of strong morals, responsiblity, pride, and discipline. Above all, we
believe that music education truly fosters a basic knowledge, history,
and appreciation of the arts.

Drama classes are taught with a holistic approach to the theater arts.
Students explore performance, technical, and design skills by
experiencing the tasks of each individual theater job. Both individual
and cooperative learning is utilized in class. Student activities
include: acting, movement for the stage, vocalization, make-up, costume
or set design, play writing, and theatrical writing.
Opportunities for performance and technical work outside of
the classroom are provided as well.
